We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties

Due to a combination of a new work schedule (more to come on that), household obligations, a recalcitrant computer that insisted on starting a software update and plain old fatigue, the post in development for publication this morning has been delayed. Life can be like that.

So, until I can get something finished this evening, you will have to make do with this nostalgic television test pattern, and the assurance that the problems are not on your end. Well, there are probably problems on your end too, but those will have to be your responsibility because I cannot do anything about them.

    • I remembered the black & white circular patterns, and found them really cool. In this world awash in on-demand streaming content, it seems quaint to remember a time when the television stations would sign off for the night.

  1. I remember a test pattern such as the attached.

Indian-head test pattern – Wikipedia. I’m sure they could have come up with a better symbol than an indigenous person as was used here.

Recalcitrant – not a word in very common usage these days. I find more and more that common vocabularies are becoming, or have become, much simpler and limited. It’s regrettable, there is a rich language out there being neglected, or shall I say, dumbed down.

My synonym guide says that the adjective Recalcitrant means to rebel against restraint or to defy control. Also Unruly, Wayward, or Intractable.

Lest I trend towards the Restive state, I shall take my leave and wish you good day. No chafing allowed.

    • I got to the end of my evening, and had about 1 hour available to get that post finished up, but my computer was having none of it. Maybe it heard me musing about how it might be time for a new one and decided to show me who was boss. I think maybe it did, because I just gave up after waiting for the full hour for it to finish preparing Windows for the update. I suppose I could have used another uncommon word I like – truculent.

Restive – I need to use this one more. I like it.

    • I did not know that. I loved that old listing. I presume that the “South Park Chevrolet Barn Dance” is not the South Park everyone is familiar with these days? I have never watched it, but I might tune in to watch Chevrolets dancing in a barn. πŸ™‚

  2. I understand where you’re coming from. Just do what you need to do and we, your faithful followers, will be here waiting. Like the cat who ate some cheese and stood by the mouse hole with baited breath.
